An announcement was made this afternoon by Governor McMaster and State Superintendent, Molly Spearman, that SC schools will be closed through April 30. Should this timeline need to be adjusted by ending sooner or by being extended, an announcement will be made at that time. ACSD was braced for the announcement of a school closing extension as a result of the daily SCDE and State Superintendent briefings provided to district superintendents. With other decisions being made in our state and those in states like NC, it seemed to be a matter of time. I do think it gives our students, especially our seniors, a window of hope that the school closure through April 30 will have helped to flatten the curve and the month of May will usher in the possibilities of returning to school, holding prom and graduation, etc. although there are still no guarantees. ACSD is busy preparing for the second wave of providing instructional packets and eLearning plans for students. We stand ready to provide the best services possible to our students at this time. We are currently awaiting guidance from the SCDE on decisions governing some instructional components and will share and implement these once received. Our focus is on what students have already been taught and what they need between now and the end of the year in order to be prepared for the next grade level or course content in a sequence or for graduation. - Dr. Julie Fowler, ACSD Superintendent

Due to information received from the state, Abbeville County School District will be adjusting procedures for meal service. Beginning Monday, March 23rd, Abbeville County School District will provide 5 breakfast and 5 lunch meals for each child 18 and under at the following sites: Wright Middle, Cherokee Trail Elementary, Diamond Hill Elementary, and John C Calhoun Elementary School. You will be picking up breakfast and lunch for the entire week. Pick up will begin at 12:30 - 1:30 on Monday only. Students must accompany the parent or adult for pickup. Parents can bring all children 18 and under and special needs students 21 and under to receive weekly meals.

Parents and Guardians, Today in our Media Center, a portion of a row of lights fell. The Media Center was closed today and no students or school employees were in the Media Center when the lights fell. Our Media Specialist was off campus today at a professional development training. The Media Center will remain closed until the problem has been corrected. The District is taking steps to correct the situation. Administration is aware that pictures of the lights may be posted on social media. We want to assure the students, parents, and stakeholders that the Media Center was closed and will remain closed while the District takes steps to correct the situation.
Kenneth Calliham, Admissions Counselor from Lander University, will be at Abbeville High School on Wednesday, 3/5/20, to meet with seniors who have applied to Lander. Please stop by to see him in the Conference Room of the Counseling Department to check in with him about your status or your change of plans. Juniors from AHS attended Piedmont Technical College's Open House to explore possible career fields and majors. Students took a career assessment to identify their possible career choices based on their interests which coordinated with specific majors at Piedmont Technical College and 4 year colleges. Students were able to see demonstrations of career fields and talk with instructors about those fields during this time.
AHS will host Saluda on Friday in the AA Upperstate Football Championship. Gates will open at 6:00pm. Tickets can be purchased during the week at 105 West and Lewis Chiropractics. Tickets are $8 and Clear Bag Policy will be in place. GO PANTHERS!
Congratulations to John Grady Bolt & Megan Elise Botts for being selected as the 2019 Heisman High School Scholarship School Winners for Abbeville High School. From an applicant pool of thousands of high school scholar-athletes graduating with the class of 2020, more than 3,600 have been named School Winners in the Heisman Trophy Trust’s scholarship competition. School Winners will continue to compete for the chance to become State Winners, National Finalists or National Winners. State Winners receive a $500 college scholarship, National Finalists receive a $1,000 college scholarship and the male and female National Winners will each receive a $5,000 college scholarship and a trip to New York City to attend the 2019 Heisman Trophy Weekend events including the televised ESPN Heisman Trophy ceremony and 85th annual Heisman Dinner Gala.
Piedmont Technical College provided placement testing for Abbeville High School students planning to graduate with the Class of 2020 and enroll in PTC in the Fall of 2020. Placement testing provides a measure to ensure that students are successful in the general education courses required in their major. An admissions counselor from The University of South Carolina will be at Abbeville High School on Tuesday, 2/19/2019, at 1:00PM to give information and answer questions. 10th, 11th, or 12th grade students may sign up, but seating is limited. Priority will be given to juniors and seniors. Sign up by Friday in the Counseling Department if you would like to attend.
The University of Southern California is hosting the Bovard Scholars Program from July 14, 2019 - August 3, 2019. This program is for high-achieving juniors in need of financial assistance for college admission. Selected applicants attend the 3-week program at no cost. See Mrs. Scott in Guidance for more info. The deadline to apply is February 15.
